Large Diameter Pneumatic Trunnion Mounted Ball Valve

This is a high-pressure, industrial-grade ball valve. Its body is constructed from cast steel and finished with a light-gray, anti-corrosive coating. Both ends feature a full-flange connection design, with a hard-alloy sealing layer applied to the inner circumference of the flanges. The flanges are equipped with a series of evenly spaced, high-strength bolt holes, making the valve suitable for installation in large-diameter, high-pressure industrial piping systems. The top is fitted with a high-torque pneumatic actuator and an intelligent valve positioner, enabling precise remote control. With its robust and heavy-duty construction, the valve is specifically engineered for demanding operating conditions.

Manufacturing Range

Nominal Diameter (DN): Standard production ranges from DN50 to DN1400, with a primary focus on the DN100–DN800 range; designed for large-diameter, high-pressure pipeline applications such as long-distance oil and gas transmission and coal-chemical processing.

Pressure Rating: Standard offerings cover PN1.6 to PN16 MPa, with American standard (ANSI/ASME) versions supporting Class 150 to Class 900, meeting the pressure-bearing requirements of high-pressure operating conditions.

Temperature Range: Suitable for standard operating conditions from -46°C to +200°C. With specialized seals, this range can be extended to cryogenic applications as low as -196°C or high-temperature environments up to 450°C.

Materials and Configuration: Valve bodies are constructed from WCB carbon steel, LCB low-temperature steel, or alloy steel; valve seat sealing surfaces are hard-faced with cemented carbide, and valve stems are made of sulfur-resistant stainless steel. Connection options include flanged or butt-weld ends, and the valves can be equipped with high-torque pneumatic, hydraulic, or electro-hydraulic actuators.

Applicable Media: Suitable for natural gas, crude oil, refined petroleum products, and high-pressure chemical fluids. The full-bore design allows for the passage of pipeline pigs (scrapers), meeting the requirements for the long-distance transport of flammable and explosive media.

Design Features

Featuring a fixed-ball design, the ball is fully supported and secured by upper and lower stems and bearings. During operation, fluid pressure is transmitted entirely to the bearings rather than exerting force on the valve seats; this significantly reduces operating torque, minimizes sealing deformation, and ensures far greater long-term operational stability compared to conventional floating-ball valves.

Equipped with spring-loaded, floating valve seat assemblies, the valve achieves zero-leakage sealing in both directions. There are no restrictions on flow direction during installation, and the seats can automatically retract to relieve pressure in the event of an abnormal pressure buildup within the valve cavity, ensuring operational safety.

The full-bore design—with a passage diameter identical to the internal diameter of the pipeline—offers minimal fluid resistance and allows for the passage of pipeline pigs, making it well-suited for cleaning operations in long-distance transmission pipelines.

Standard features include fire-safe and anti-static construction. In the event that sealing rings are destroyed by fire, a metal-to-metal seal is automatically formed; meanwhile, conductive springs discharge static electricity from the ball, eliminating potential safety hazards when handling flammable or explosive media.

Design Standards

Domestic Standards: GB/T 12237 specifies the fundamental design and structural requirements for ball valves; GB/T 13927 defines the test criteria for shell strength and bidirectional zero-leakage sealing; and GB/T 21385 sets forth specific performance requirements for metal-seated ball valves.

International Standards: API 6D serves as the authoritative international manufacturing standard for ball valves used in long-distance pipelines, covering essential safety design requirements such as fire-safe and anti-static features, as well as cavity pressure relief. It is also compatible with major international standards—including ISO 17292 and ASME B16.34—ensuring compliance with the entry requirements for overseas oil and gas projects.

Key Control Parameters: These standards mandate design specifications for trunnion-mounted ball structures and spring-loaded floating seats. They impose strict controls on critical parameters—such as the sphericity of the ball and the hardness differential between sealing surfaces—to ensure the valve’s long-term, stable operation under demanding conditions characterized by high pressure, high flow rates, and frequent cycling.
